Ian Kaminsky, Ph.D.

Professional Profile

Dr. Kaminsky’s ability to connect with individuals of all types provides a comforting and supportive environment to explore and improve his client’s mental health. He specializes in addictive behaviors and habits. Dr. Kaminsky has worked in the field of human services since 1990 and has worked as a counselor and supervisor in many settings, including Cottage Hospital's Psychiatric Services and UC Santa Barbara’s Alcohol & Drug Program.

As Director of UCSB’s Alcohol & Drug Program from 2001 to 2010, Dr. Kaminsky researched, developed, and implemented three alcohol and drug intervention programs for young adults unlike any other programs in the country. The programs help a wide range of young people – from experimental drug users to those who need addiction treatment and recovery services. These specialized programs work because they are designed and tailored for the issues and culture of young people today.

Dr. Kaminsky’s programs for college students and young people have been awarded the honor of Model Program by the US Department of Education. Over the last decade, Dr. Kaminsky has spoken at numerous national conferences teaching other institutions about his cutting-edge approach to treating drug and alcohol abuse in young people.

Now fully devoted to his private practice, Dr. Kaminsky is helping individual clients of all ages with a wide variety of personal problems and he's helping them overcome painful barriers and reach their life’s potential.
